Ewan Clayton

Ewan Clayton is Professor in Design within the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries at the University of Sunderland. His research interests encompass the place of technologies and craft in communication and the history of writing. He teaches calligraphy to type students at the University of Reading and Cooper Union in New York City. He runs his own calligraphy studio in Brighton in the UK. His book on the history of writing 'The Golden Thread' came out in 2013 and has since been translated into a number of languages. In 2019 he was editor and advisor to the British Library’s major exhibition 'Writing: Making your Mark' which charted five hundred years of human innovation from hieroglyphs to emoji’s.
